Oyster Backpack

Florence has been the center of European leather craft since the 13th century - its workshops producing the techniques, the standards, the material intelligence that most leather goods still draw on. Noam Moyal trained there, then took that knowledge to Portugal, and made this.

The Oyster backpack is built from vegetable-tanned full grain cow leather: a hide that has passed through a slow tanning process using natural tannins rather than chromium salts, emerging firmer, denser, with a fine-grained matte surface that absorbs light rather than reflecting it. Run a thumb across the body and the grain registers under the fingertip - not rough, but present, honest about what the material is. The saddlery leather straps carry a different quality: smooth and slightly resistant, dense in the hand, the category of leather historically selected for harness and load-bearing equipment because it does not yield under sustained tension. Stainless steel rings and buckles throughout - no plating, no brass to tarnish, decade-scale hardware. The pig leather lining is a traditional luxury goods choice: breathable, smooth against contents, developing its own interior patina with time.

Two inner pockets. A removable waist belt for longer carries. Adjustable straps. The YKK Excella zipper - the premium metal-coil specification, chosen here because the zip is the most-used surface on any bag and precision hardware outlasts commodity fittings - runs the main closure with a pull that feels deliberate rather than convenient. Each piece leaves the Portuguese atelier only when it is finished - one unit held in stock, with the next made to order in 7 to 14 working days when the current piece sells.
