Noam Moyal crumples the soft sheep leather by hand - pressing, releasing, repositioning - until the surface finds a relief that cannot be arrived at by any other method and cannot be repeated in the next piece.
The Textured backpack is the largest object in the line built on this technique. Moyal studied leather craft under master artisans in Florence, where the handling of material is understood as a discipline before it becomes a design decision. The crumpling is done without press or mold - each session of making produces a topography specific to that session, which means the relief on this backpack's face is unrepeatable. The body is soft sheep leather: light against the back, warm quickly, with the give of a material that yields to the body rather than holding against it. Saddlery leather - the dense, high-tensile category historically used for harness and equipment - provides structural reinforcement at straps and base, where the load actually sits. The pig leather lining develops a quiet patina against contents over time.
Two inner pockets. A removable waist belt for load distribution on longer carries. Adjustable straps. YKK Excella hardware throughout - the premium specification within the world's dominant zipper manufacturer, chosen here because the zip is the most-used surface on any bag and commodity fittings fail where precision hardware does not. Stainless steel rings and buckles: corrosion-resistant, no plating to wear through.
